WE'RE THE FAMILY RUNNING THE INN
- and we are the family that will welcome you when you come to stay at our inn!
We moved here in 2022—and wow, we’ve completely fallen in love with this beautiful place, both Selbu and our home, the inn.
Selbu has everything: friendly, positive people, a lively community with so much happening, stunning nature, and even its own chocolate factory! We’re incredibly grateful to call this place home.
I, Ida, am from Hommelvik, just 30 minutes away. After living in Italy and Sweden—where I trained and worked as a Montessori teacher—I met Lennart, and we decided to settle here in Selbu. Lennart is Swedish, so if you’re practicing Norwegian with him, you might end up speaking the wrong Scandinavian language! Luckily, Swedish and Norwegian are quite similar, so you’ll manage just fine.
Someone once called our guesthouse the “Pearl of Selbustrand,” and we couldn’t agree more—it perfectly captures the charm of this wonderful place.
At Balstad Pensjonat, you’ll enjoy homemade food, a peaceful atmosphere, swimming in the lake, relaxing in the garden, and plenty of opportunities to get creative!
In the photo, you can see our family—Lennart, Ida, Hilda, and little Hans—standing in the garden with the lake in the background.
If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to me. I’d love to hear from you!

What do our visitors have to say about us?

“Perfect location - peaceful and beautiful. Ida is a brilliant host - responsive and helpful with recommendations. We really enjoyed our first trip to Norway - thank you!”

“I stayed at Ida's place for a week's fishing in the area. The house was perfect for this, well equipped, loads of space for the four of us and in beautiful location overlooking the lake - all just 30 mins from the airport. Ida was extremely helpful before and during our stay, helping out with local information. Highly recommended, would stay again.”

“I highly recommend Balstad Pensjonat!
A warm and welcoming host, and a truly pleasant stay.”

ROM 1
A cozy room with a modern 90 cm wide bed, a desk, and a view up toward the field where you can sometimes see cows grazing.
There is a wardrobe with space for hanging clothes.
ROM 2
This room is painted in vintage rose, and the pictures on the walls once hung in Grandma Henny’s home (Ida’s grandma in the city). The bed is modern and 90 cm wide. The view from the window overlooks the driveway and the neighboring property.
There is a built-in wardrobe with space for hanging clothes.
The room is located right next to the veranda on the second floor.
ROM 3
Modern art on the walls and vintage rose-colored paint give this room its unique charm. It is located just across the hall from Room 2, at the end of the corridor near the veranda. The view from this room stretches out over Lake Selbusjøen.
The bedside table and writing desk have been part of the guesthouse for many years. The bed is modern and 120 cm wide.
There is also a wardrobe built in traditional 1950s style, with space for hanging clothes.
ROM 4
When we took over the guesthouse from Anne-Lise and Sverre Balstad, this room had two beds. They’ve since been replaced with two others—also from the guesthouse—which are full of charm and match beautifully with the lovely vanity table that once stood on a small farm in Selbu.
The room is very cozy, but if you're taller than average, you may want to choose a different room, as these beds are traditional in length—185 cm.
From the window, you’ll enjoy a beautiful view of Lake Selbusjøen!
ROM 5
This room is a blend of old and new. Here you can relax in a modern 120 cm wide bed. Next to the bed is a traditional washstand that once belonged to the guesthouse—we’ve given it a fresh coat of paint and hope you’ll like it too!
The window offers a view of Lake Selbusjøen.
The bird prints above the bed once adorned the walls of Lennart’s grandfather Åke in Sweden.
ROM 6
Yet another room with a view of Lake Selbusjøen! The bed is 80 cm wide and made of black wrought iron. The chair and bedside table were already part of the guesthouse when we moved in.
The room is located across the corridor from the bathroom and toilet.
ROM 7
This is our only double room—a charming space with a lovely view of Lake Selbusjøen.
The bathrooms are located just across the hallway from the room, which also features a table and chairs if you'd like to relax in your own space.

BATHROOMS AND TOILETS
When staying with us, you’ll have access to two bathrooms on the second floor—where the guest rooms are located. One bathroom has a shower, and the other has a bathtub. There are also two separate WCs on the same floor, as well as a washbasin in the hallway.
In the basement, there is an additional bathroom with a shower, and near the main entrance, there is another WC available for our guests.
