Nestled in the heart of beautiful Selbu, Trøndelag, our charming inn is just 30 minutes from the airport, one hour from Trondheim, and within easy reach of many local treasures.
With seven cozy bedrooms, Balstad Pensjonat is perfect for families, groups of friends, or work retreats. Book all seven rooms, and you'll have the entire house to yourselves! Step outside into our peaceful garden—originally designed by an architect in the 1960s—and enjoy the quiet. Or take a stroll down to the lake for a moment of calm. Feeling adventurous? Borrow a kayak and head out on the water—we're happy to help you get started.

At Balstad Inn, we believe it's not only important to preserve our customs, traditions and histories, but to pass them on — to future generations, and to those who carry Norwegian heritage in their hearts, no matter where in the world they live.
Through hands-on experiences, storytelling, and shared meals, we invite our guests to connect with the spirit of Norway in an authentic and heartfelt way.
We offer activities such as knitting with traditional patterns, lefs-baking and making jam and saft.
A Shared Breakfast to Start the Day
At Balstad Inn, breakfast is more than just a meal — it's a moment of connection. Each morning, guests gather around our long farmhouse table to enjoy a shared, family-style breakfast in good company. We serve homemade rolls fresh from the oven, traditional Norwegian waffles, a selection of cheeses, cured ham, and other seasonal delights, often sourced from local producers.
We care deeply about making everyone feel welcome and well taken care of. When you book your stay, we truly appreciate it if you let us know about any allergies or dietary needs in advance. This helps us prepare the best possible breakfast just for you — with the same warmth and attention as we would for family.

We moved here in 2022—and wow, we've completely fallen in love with this beautiful place, both Selbu and our home, the inn.
Selbu has everything: friendly, positive people, a lively community with so much happening, stunning nature, and even its own chocolate factory! We're incredibly grateful to call this place home.
I, Ida, am from Hommelvik, just 30 minutes away. After living in Italy and Sweden—where I trained and worked as a Montessori teacher—I met Lennart, and we decided to settle here in Selbu. Lennart is Swedish, so if you're practicing Norwegian with him, you might end up speaking the wrong Scandinavian language! Luckily, Swedish and Norwegian are quite similar, so you'll manage just fine.
Someone once called our guesthouse the "Pearl of Selbustrand," and we couldn't agree more—it perfectly captures the charm of this wonderful place.
At Balstad Pensjonat, you'll enjoy homemade food, a peaceful atmosphere, swimming in the lake, relaxing in the garden, and plenty of opportunities to get creative!

Our guesthouse offers shared spaces, private rooms, two balconies, and a spacious garden. The living room features seating areas, a digital piano, a dining table, and our cozy coffee table corner.
I hope you'll feel at home here. Enjoy the garden, read books from the library, and savour the breakfast served here every morning before 10 a.m.
Prices for accommodation, including breakfast:
Single room: NOK 1050 (Rooms 1–3, 5 and 6)
Small double room: NOK 1550 (Room 4)
Large double room: NOK 1850 (Room 7)
Check-out before 1 p.m.
